President’s Blog

It is hard to believe spring is almost here.  The Junior League has had a wonderful year with Day in the Park, Bargain Mart and our many volunteer events.  I am so proud of our Provisional class for helping with Amazement Square’s Dr. Seuss Birthday Party.  It was wonderful to see so many children take part in activities centered around reading.  Amazement Square was also gracious enough to hold a book drive for Reach Out and Read.  We collected over 45 books to give to children in our community!

We  also have a wonderful Reach Out and Read committee that just received $2,000 from RR Donnelly’s board to go directly towards books for children at pediatric offices like Richeson Drive, Johnson Health Center, Centra Family Practice and the Health Department!  I applaud these ladies for working hard to help promote the importance of reading to our children.

Our Kids in the Kitchen program had another successful event at the Boys and Girls Club with Zumba, healthy snacks and goodies to take home.  We have another event coming up in April at local elementary school to help teach even more children and parents about healthy habits that are easy and fun.

Last, our much-anticipated Kentucky Derby Soiree will be here before you know it!  May 4 at Oakwood Country Club is an evening you won’t want to miss.  I can’t wait to see all the ladies in their gorgeous derby hats and the men in matching bow ties.  I do hope you will consider joining us for an evening of mint juleps, dancing and great auction items to help the Junior League continue to provide wonderful programs and grants to our community.

Best,

Ashley Carter
